Designed for those seeking careers in police departments, correctional facilities, federal protection agencies, or the court system, the Department of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, and Homeland Security at St. John’s University offers nine degree programs. Students studying criminal justice at St. John’s also have the opportunity to specialize in forensic psychology and minor in one of several areas of study, including criminalistics, computer science, or correctional counseling.
The school’s criminal justice, homeland security, and legal studies faculty are made up of highly qualified instructors with strong academic and professional backgrounds in the courses they teach. In addition to covering traditional criminal activities and policing techniques, the criminal justice programs at St. John’s University focus on modern threats to public safety and provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to stop criminals with a global reach.
Outside of the required coursework, criminal justice and legal studies students at St. John’s have the opportunity to join the Alpha Phi Sigma and Lambda Epsilon Chi honor societies. St. John’s students also can take part in internships with government agencies and criminal justice organizations throughout metropolitan New York.
